Remount Ejected USB device without Unplugging

Think of the situation when you have safely removed(but not unplugged) the external storage device and you suddenly realise that you have skipped copying a file. I have faced this problem many times. I used to think that remounting a storage device is not possible without 'USB safely remove' software which is not free.
But soon I discovered a method to remount a safely removed external storage device without unplugging it.

Here are the steps you need to perform in order to remount your device:

  1. Right click on 'My Computer'. Go to 'Properties'. Open the 'Hardware' tab and click 'Device Manager'.
  2. On menu bar click on 'view' and select 'Devices by connection'.
  3. Look for an USB root hub of the USB device with a yellow colour exclamation mark. Right click on that USB device and select 'Disable'. Again Right click on it and this time select 'Enable'.

The drive letter has now returned to 'My Computer'. This trick is useful for those who do not have a easy access to their USB device (for e.g. if you have your device connected to the USB port at the back of your CPU)
